Terms of Service

Last updated: 2 May 2025

These are the rules for using What the Poop?. They are written to be readable, not to bury anything important in legalese.

Acceptance of these terms

By downloading or using What the Poop? you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the app. We may update these terms from time to time โ€” continued use after changes are posted means you accept the updated version.

Who can use the app

You must be at least 13 years old to use What the Poop?. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian has reviewed and agreed to these terms on your behalf.

By using the app you represent that the above is true. We reserve the right to terminate accounts where we have reason to believe this requirement is not met.

Your account

What the Poop? does not require an email address or password. You are assigned an anonymous account automatically when you first open the app. You choose a username that other users will see on codes and ratings you submit.

Your username must not:

  • Impersonate another person or organisation.
  • Contain offensive, hateful, or discriminatory language.
  • Include personal information such as a real name or phone number.

You are responsible for all activity carried out under your account. We reserve the right to change or remove a username that violates these rules.

Content you submit

When you submit a toilet code, toilet location, rating, or any other content through the app, you assign ownership of that content to What the Poop?. We are free to store, display, distribute, and use it in any way โ€” including making it available to other users who watch an ad to unlock it.

By submitting content you confirm that it is accurate to the best of your knowledge and that sharing it does not breach any law or third-party right.

You must not submit content that:

  • Is deliberately false or fabricated.
  • Is offensive, abusive, or harassing.
  • Infringes a copyright, trademark, or any other third-party right.
  • Is submitted through automated means or scripts.

The coin system

Coins are earned by watching rewarded ads or by having a code you shared rated as working by another user. Coins can be spent to unlock a toilet code for one hour.

  • Coins have no cash value and cannot be exchanged for money.
  • We may introduce the option to purchase coins for a small fee in a future update. Any such purchases will be subject to their own terms presented at the point of sale.
  • We reserve the right to adjust earning rates, spending costs, and other aspects of the coin economy at any time.
  • Coins are tied to your anonymous account. If your account is terminated for a breach of these terms, any remaining coin balance is forfeited.

Advertising

What the Poop? is a free app supported by advertising. By using the app you agree to see ads, including rewarded ads served by Google AdMob. You can opt out of personalised ads through your device's ad settings; standard non-personalised ads will still be shown.

Prohibited behaviour

You must not:

  • Submit fake or malicious codes with the intent to mislead other users.
  • Abuse the rating system to unfairly inflate or deflate coin rewards.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract data from the app.
  • Use the app in any way that could damage, disable, or impair our servers or services.
  • Create multiple accounts to exploit the coin system.

No guarantees

What the Poop? is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee that:

  • Any toilet code will be current, accurate, or will work.
  • Any toilet location shown in the app actually exists or is accessible.
  • The app will be available at all times or be free from errors.

Users can report codes that no longer work, and we will do our best to keep the map accurate โ€” but we accept no liability for costs, losses, or inconvenience arising from incorrect information.

Suspension and termination

We reserve the right to suspend or permanently terminate any account that we believe has violated these terms, without prior notice. If your account is removed, you may not create a new one without our permission. You can also delete your own account at any time from within the app; see our Privacy Policy for details on what happens to your data.

Changes to the service

We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of What the Poop? at any time, including features, the coin economy, or the app itself. We will try to give reasonable notice of significant changes, but are not obliged to do so.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from your use of What the Poop? will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
